Water supply levels very low after big freeze

The elected members of Mayo County Council were told that water supply levels were very low around the county following the recent weather. Director of services for water services Paddy Mahon told the annual budget meeting: “Normally we use 59,000 cubic metres of water a day in the county, but yesterday (Sunday, January 10) we used 69,000 cubic metres of water in the county, that’s 16 per cent more than normal and this week we expect it to get worse. The situation in the Castlebar reservoir is critical today (Monday) and rationing will have to be considered over the week”.

Councillors make hard calls to cut county rate

After two days of meetings which totalled over 12 hours of discussion and debate, along with numerous in committee meetings, the 31 elected members of Mayo County Council agreed on a budget which saw them cut the rate in the county by two and a half per cent, to bring it to 68.76 on Friday evening.

Westmeath students invited to design poster for National Heritage Week

Fourth, fifth, and sixth year students from Westmeath are being invited to design a poster for National Heritage Week. The winning poster will be developed by a professional design agency and feature in a national advertising campaign to include TV, print and online.
